Team Alfaflex Group raised money while walking for the fight against breast cancer
Why the company was so eager to support the fight against breast cancer? We put this question to Elien Van Sande, marketing coordinator at Alfaflex Group and initiator of their participation in The Pink Walk.
Why did Alfaflex Group colleagues participate in The Pink Walk?
Unfortunately, everyone knows someone - even if it is through-via - who has had to deal with breast cancer. Within our team, we strongly sympathize with people facing this. I myself lost my grandmother to colon cancer in early April. That loss prompted me to invite my colleagues to do something positive together, focusing on health, connection and solidarity. The Pink Walk was the perfect initiative for that."
Have you participated before or was this the first time?
"For Alfaflex Group, this was the very first time we participated in The Pink Walk. The enthusiasm with which colleagues registered and participated definitely tastes like more."
How have you colored this project within the company?
"We chose an approach that was approachable and personal. In our internal communication, I invited colleagues to join the Alfaflex team on The Pink Walk website. Some walked individually, others together in the afternoon. We shared weekly motivational updates via email, with facts about steps, health and cancer prevention. It made for fun conversations at the coffee machine and even spontaneous lunch walks."
"Something I originally started from a personal grief grew into a connecting and hopeful story within the company" - Elien Van Sande
Alfaflex Group also collected a large amount of donations, how did you do it?
"As a company, we decided to donate €0.10 per kilometer for each Team Alfaflex participant. Did you walk an average of more than 10 000 steps per day during the entire month? Then that amount was doubled. Via our social media and throughout the company we made it visible that we were participating in The Pink Walk and why. This brought the total amount to €736.10 - an amount we are very proud of as a team."
And as an initiator, what did that do to you?
"It was extraordinary to see how much energy, solidarity and positivity came out of it. Something I originally started from a personal grief grew into a connecting and hopeful story within the company. That touched me deeply."
Would you join The Pink Walk again in the future?
"Without a doubt. In fact, we are already looking forward to the next edition! We want to make it even more visible this time, and invite even more colleagues to step out with us."
