On October 1, 2024, the European Parliament's Station d'Europe lit up in pink for the first time. It was a real first, as Pink Ribbon was Pink Ribbon first initiative to be granted the privilege by the European Parliament Bureau to draw attention to a good cause in this way, in this case the fight against breast cancer. The illumination was introduced with a personal speech by European President Roberta Metsola, while Dr. Em. Jan Lamote gave an inspiring speech in which he explained the importance of early detection of breast cancer and underlined the objectives of participating in mammoquiz.be.
The evening before—on the eve of the start of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month—the iconic Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp was also bathed in pink light. Almost 200 guests listened to the welcome speech by director Ms. Carmen Willems, and here too, Ms. Anne Soenen advocated for initiatives that promote early detection. Because the earlier breast cancer is detected, the better it can be treated and the impact of the disease can be limited.
In addition to the European Parliament and the KMSKA, the town halls of Bruges, Lier, and Brussels were once again lit up in pink in 2024.
With their repeated action, the cities and municipalities involved want to send a message to all residents and thus express their support for those who are fighting or have fought against breast cancer, as well as their families and friends.
