Fourth edition of Walk for Pink Ribbon 2,436 walkers in the fight against breast cancer

On Whit Monday, the Hoge Kempen National Park turned pink once again for the fourth edition of the Walk for Pink Ribbon. A whopping 2,436 enthusiastic participants made their way to Dilsen-Stokkem to walk together in support of the fight against breast cancer, despite the heat.

The fourth edition of the Walk for Pink Ribbon once again a huge success. Under a bright spring sun, no fewer than 2,436 enthusiastic participants laced up their walking shoes to join the fight against breast cancer. With five different distances (6, 10, 15, 25, and 35 kilometers) , the event offered a suitable challenge for every walker. The beautiful setting of the Hoge Kempen National Park in Maasmechelen once again made the experience complete.

For the first time, Pink Ribbon with Walking.be as a logistics partner. Having previously organized four walking events to benefit the non-profit, the walking organization now also supported the Walk for Pink Ribbon. This collaboration brought some notable new features, such as a bright pink starting arch and a new starting location at the Terhills Cablepark. Wandelsport Vlaanderen also supported the event as a loyal partner, as it does every year.

The organizers went out of their way to give participants an unforgettable walking experience. Sports coach Morena from HUPHUP made sure everyone was well-prepared at the start with a thorough warm-up, while the drummers from DROM deBatterij added extra atmosphere and ambiance at the start and finish lines. Along the way, the walkers had everything they needed thanks to refreshments provided by partner Carrefour, which gave them the energy to give it their all. As is tradition, all participants were rewarded upon arrival with a delicious slice of Limburg flan.

Breast Cancer Awareness

The Walk for Pink Ribbon originallyPink Ribbon as the closing event of The Pink Walk, Pink Ribbon virtual walking challenge Pink Ribbon the month of May. Through these initiatives, the national breast cancer organization aims to encourage as many people as possible to adopt an active lifestyle. Exercise is not only beneficial for overall health, but can also play an important role in the fight against breast cancer: preventively, during treatment, and afterward to reduce the risk of recurrence.

Pink Ribbon was also a key focus during the Walk for Pink Ribbon . Along the walking routes, participants could discover various flags and information boards with details about breast cancer and Pink Ribbon projects. At the start and finish locations, extra attention was also paid to raising awareness. Mascot Sandy, the pink ostrich, encouraged visitors to test their knowledge of breast cancer via Mammoquiz.be. In addition, a nurse from pharmaceutical partner Novartis was on hand to explain the warning signs of breast cancer in women over 70. They did so using the realistic breast model from their“Wander Boobs” campaign.

Thanks to additional donations and merchandise sales, the event raised a total of approximately 75,000 euros . All proceeds will go toward Pink Ribbon ’s operations Pink Ribbon will be used for projects focused on prevention, awareness, and support for breast cancer patients.
