Step by Step for Pink Ribbon: Lies is making May a month full of meaning

What began as a personal challenge for her 50th birthday turned into a meaningful initiative for Pink Ribbon for Lies. In May, she participated in both the Walk for Pink Ribbon The Pink Walk dedicated herself fully to raising donations. “A symbolic project with a wonderful goal.”

Lies first became involved with Pink Ribbon events Pink Ribbon a personal challenge. To celebrate her 50th birthday, she and her children are participating in an activity in every province. For the province of Limburg, they came across the Walk for Pink Ribbon in Dilsen-Stokkem. “Together with my daughter Eline, I’m taking on the 25km walk. I even got pink walking socks for Mother’s Day, so we’re totally in theme,” says Lies.  

Since Lies loves to walk and wanted to do even more to support the charity, she decided to The Pink Walk to this cause. So, every day in May, she took as many steps as possible to support the fight against breast cancer. And she carried that theme with her very consciously. “Precisely because it’s a month-long challenge, it was so meaningful to me. It also opened the door to conversations with friends. For example, a colleague who had just finished treatment shared her story with me. The Pink Walk for me, The Pink Walk is definitely a symbolic project with a wonderful goal.”

2,320 euros in donations

To provide financial support Pink Ribbon projects Pink Ribbon Lies launched a call for sponsorships. So far, 2,320 euros have been raised. “It’s unexpected, but of course it’s fantastic to see how much support is coming in through donations. To reward them, I’ve added a challenge: whoever can guess how many steps I’ll have taken by the end of the month will receive a cooking session from me as a gift,” Lies laughs.  

And what about those 10,000 steps a day? As a high school teacher, Lies hits that mark with ease. Surprised by just how active her life already was, Lies decided to raise the bar a bit and set a goal of 15,000 steps. “During the month of May, I’m extra motivated to walk again. That means more kilometers in less time. And before going to bed, I always walk for about an hour. My sleep battery on my smartwatch has never been this high. So The Pink Walk nothing but benefits for me,” Lies concludes.

Province of Antwerp crowned Walking Champion 2025

At the provincial government building in Antwerp, Deputy Mireille Colson received the title and trophy of Walking Champion 2025. This took place on the occasion of the new edition of The Pink Walk, a walking challenge organized by Pink Ribbon . "This title is a wonderful recognition for the thousands of Antwerp residents who came together to exercise for a healthy cause. As a province, we can be truly proud that so many people are committed to breast cancer prevention and awareness," said the province.
