Province of Antwerp crowned Walking Champion 2025

At the provincial government building in Antwerp, Deputy Mireille Colson received the title and trophy of Walking Champion 2025. This took place on the occasion of the new edition of The Pink Walk, a walking challenge organized by Pink Ribbon . "This title is a wonderful recognition for the thousands of Antwerp residents who came together to exercise for a healthy cause. As a province, we can be truly proud that so many people are committed to breast cancer prevention and awareness," said the province.

Walking champion of 2025: that is the title awarded to the province of Antwerp this Friday by Pink Ribbon. It is recognition for the commitment of thousands of Antwerp residents during The Pink Walk, a walking initiative organized by the breast cancer organization. "More kilometers were covered in Antwerp than in the nine other provinces. The counter ended at no fewer than 2,078 Antwerp participants who took an average of 9,725 steps per day . That deserves recognition and a trophy to go with it," says Jan Lamote, chairman of the Pink Ribbon Board of Directors.

Also present at the presentation ceremony was Kim François, walking coach for Pink Ribbon. Throughout the year, she takes her walking group out and about and spreads the word about the importance of exercise in breast cancer prevention. It was therefore her honor to officially present the trophy to the province. "As a proud Antwerp resident, I am honored to present Pink Ribbon walking champion trophy on behalf of Pink Ribbon . Thank you for your support and fantastic efforts," said Kim.

The title and trophy were gratefully accepted by Deputy Mireille Colson. "The Pink Walk prevention concrete and visible by getting people moving. Walking is simple and accessible, but it has a major impact on awareness and health. This success is largely due to the strong organization of Pink Ribbon, which has managed to gain widespread support for this initiative."

Walking as a preventive measure against breast cancer

The Pink Walk organized twice a year, in May and October. The aim is to encourage people to exercise more during that month. "A healthy and active lifestyle is very important in the fight against breast cancer," says Lamote. "It can even prevent 1 in 3 cancer diagnoses."

For this reason, Pink Ribbon is Pink Ribbon committed to prevention, specifically to encouraging exercise. In addition to The Pink Walk , the non-profit organization also The Pink Walk physical walking events, including the Walk for Pink Ribbon Whit Monday (which falls on May 25 this year).

In 2025, there were 10,779 walkers.

It wasn't just in the province of Antwerp that people walked many kilometers. Across the two editions, in May and October, 10,779 people took part in The Pink Walk. This resulted in 1.8 million kilometers being walked, equivalent to 44 trips around the globe.

Although the main goal of this project is to encourage people to exercise more, it also raises funds. Each participant can be sponsored via the online platform. This has raised an impressive €248,919. This amount will be used entirely for Pink Ribbon projects, which focus on prevention, early detection, and psychosocial care for patients.

The next edition of The Pink Walk take place from May 1 to May 31, 2026. Registration opens on Tuesday, February 17 via www.derozemars.be

Count steps instead of minutes

We are advised to be active for 150 minutes each week for a healthy life and the lowest possible risk of cancer, but counting active minutes is not so helpful. According to new research, you might as well express your activity in increments. A lot more practical.
