565 pairs of hiking boots raised €13,563 in Trois-Ponts during “The Longest Day Walk”

Forests, rivers, and legendary climbs: 565 hikers laced up their boots extra tight on the longest day of the year in the High Ardennes. Walking.be organized Pink Ribbon Longest Day Pink Ribbon there in collaboration with Pink Ribbon . From the Coo waterfalls to the challenging finale at the top of the Val de Wanne ski slope, participants demonstrated their perseverance over 10, 24, 36, or 50 km. The result? €13,563 raised to help improve treatment and quality of life for (former) patients.

The trail took hikers through the beautiful natural landscape of the High Ardennes, past the forests of Trois-Ponts, Stavelot, and Coo. More than 85 percent of the route consisted of unpaved trails, gravel roads, and singletrack. Along the way, hikers were treated to impressive views of the Amblève Valley and the famous Coo waterfalls, along with a few challenging climbs. The finale was the now-legendary climb to the top of the Val de Wanne ski slope, where participants were rewarded with a panoramic view.

Various teams that helped raise funds for the event shared their motivations through personal stories.

Les Bul’ex, a team of 21 friends from Welkenraedt who are working together to fight cancer. The former leaders of the “Patro” youth movement are participating in the walk because they have been affected by the disease, either directly or indirectly. Their efforts are dedicated to everyone who battles the disease every day, with a special thought for their loved ones who are no longer with us. The team raised €2,123.59 to support research, prevention, and patient care.

Les Walking Women: This women’s team has participated in “The Longest Day Walk” every year since 2021 to Pink Ribbon . Their commitment began after the COVID-19 pandemic, when two friends from the group were diagnosed with the disease. Now that they have recovered, they continue to walk to support research and patient care. This year, they have already raised €3,774.52.
