Providing communications for a social cause fascinates me greatly

For an organization like Pink Ribbon , communication plays an essential role. The non-profit organization wants to make its mission widely known through the media, initiates various actions and maintains good relations with its partners. An account manager is indispensable in this regard.

Who are you and what did you study?

Hello, my name is Elisa. I am senior account manager and responsible for French-language press relations at Pink Ribbon. I studied communications and public relations.

How long have you been working at Pink Ribbon? Is this your first job?

I have been working at Pink Ribbon for three and a half years now. In total, I have been active in the world of public relations for almost ten years. I started at an advertising agency and then specialized in health communication. Soon I felt the need to use my experience for associations, to help them strengthen their voice and impact. That's how I eventually found myself naturally at Pink Ribbon . Communication at the service of a social cause has always been my greatest motivation.

What exactly does your work consist of?

I handle media contacts and ensure that Pink Ribbon 's mission and actions are publicized. I also work to develop collaborations and help organize events, such as patient days or the lighting of the European Parliament to mark the start of International Breast Cancer Month.

Do you love your work at Pink Ribbon? And why?

Very much so! I love the variety in my work, but especially the encounters it brings me. I come into contact with passionate and inspiring people: patients, healthcare professionals, partners.... Working together for a meaningful cause gives my work value and satisfaction every day.

How do you deal with the fact that you are working around an (emotional) issue like cancer?

It is, of course, a topic that evokes many emotions. What touches me most, however, is the incredible resilience of the people I meet. Their courage and energy tones that, even in the face of illness, there is still so much life and hope.

Have you personally faced breast cancer?

Yes, unfortunately several family members have been affected, including my grandmother, who passed away from us last year after a long battle with the disease.

What do you think is the importance of Pink Ribbon?

Today, treatments are evolving rapidly, which gives great hope, but early detection remains critical. One woman in eight will face breast cancer in her lifetime. Pink Ribbon plays a key role here: raising awareness, informing and offering support - because this disease can affect anyone, directly or indirectly.
