Heilig Hart Hospital Lier launches 'Outpourings,' a podcast for and with breast cancer patients
Given the high incidence of breast cancer and the often extensive and complex therapy that women must undergo, the hospital wanted to use the many experiences shared by breast cancer patients to create this podcast highlighting the experience. "Not the different therapies are highlighted, nor the numbers by which one treatment is more likely than another" says medical oncologist Dr. Annelies Troch, inspirer of the podcast. "We chose to meet the process of processing, to listen to the stories of people going through cancer. The ears focused on the subjective approach that sometimes gets too little space."
In this five-part podcast, radio host Ann Reymen talks with breast cancer patients. "For Ann, it is a topic close to her heart" says Dr. Troch. "Besides her warm and enthusiastic personality, she is in touch with the issues. For us, she was the ideal person to treat our patients to an intimate and safe conversation."
You can listen to the stories of Ellen, Goele, Wendy, Heidi and Eric, Lutgart and Monique from now on Spotify or via the websites of HeiligHartziekenhuis Lier and Borstkliniek Lier.
